OILS * PASTELS * FIGURATIVE * LANDSCAPES * NUDES * FLORALS

For as long as I can remember, I have always loved art... I often get asked 'what inspires me?' When I was growing up...we made our own fun. We didn't go on expensive holidays or theme parks, our holidays were spent camping or we would rent an old 'beach' house and play on the muddy tidal flats, pumping yabbies for fishing. As a family we would go for Sunday drives....we might go for a bush walk, search under logs for 'critters', picnic in the middle of 'no where', or go for a cool swim in a rock pool in the mountains. When I first started painting, I mainly painted the beautiful places that my husband and I tavelled to on our many camping journerys. Now that I have my 2 beautiful girls...I am sharing the beauty of the outdoors with them, and they now feature quite often in my artwork. I have been told by many people, that my artwork brings back childhood memories for them, and I hope that my artwork reminds you of a special memory too.

'The 'Ronda Lene' - Oil Painting

This fishing trawler doesn't exist anymore, she now sits at the bottom of the ocean somewhere. This painting was for my 'cousin-in-law'. The boat belonged to his uncle who passed away a little while ago....so it was very special.

I only had the 2 pic above to work with for reference material. My cousin wanted the boat to be painted as if it was going out to sea. I found this challenging, as I didn't have a pic as to how the actual boat looked from behind....and of course I wanted it to look like the 'Ronda Lene'.

....planning sketch
.....under-painting, still trying to get it right
The finished painting
....close-up of the boat.

I found this painting hard....as it was like doing a portrait, because the boat had belonged to someone....it was just not any fishing trawler, it meant something special. Plus, I'm not a 'boat' person....I really don't know much about them....so be gentle you guys out there who are boat enthusiasts, lol

  1. Good morning Amanda!... No criticisms to be offered here! A very strong, active nautical portrait with all of the Russian strengths: good draftsmanship... strong and imaginative composition... rich vibrant colour and most of all... your painting comes from your heart. A painting can never fail when it comes from that source and is supported by these strengths!

I love the painting... it has the smell and feel of the sea with the gulls wheeling about overhead! and I am certain that the lucky recipient will as well! A gem Amanda!

    Good Painting!
    Warmest regards,
    Bruce
