For as long as I can remember, I have always loved art... I often get asked 'what inspires me?' When I was growing up...we made our own fun. We didn't go on expensive holidays or theme parks, our holidays were spent camping or we would rent an old 'beach' house and play on the muddy tidal flats, pumping yabbies for fishing. As a family we would go for Sunday drives....we might go for a bush walk, search under logs for 'critters', picnic in the middle of 'no where', or go for a cool swim in a rock pool in the mountains. When I first started painting, I mainly painted the beautiful places that my husband and I tavelled to on our many camping journerys. Now that I have my 2 beautiful girls...I am sharing the beauty of the outdoors with them, and they now feature quite often in my artwork. I have been told by many people, that my artwork brings back childhood memories for them, and I hope that my artwork reminds you of a special memory too.

Moreton Bay Region Art Awards - 2010 'Opening Night'

I attended the opening of the 'Moreton Bay Art Awards' last night....it seemed to lack a bit of 'party' atmosphere...didn't have the same 'feel' as previous years 'opening nights', but that's not the point, the art was amazing!
The winner of the 'Photography/Digital' was Shane Fitzgerald for 'Tempest:After Streeton' (centre top in the image on the left).  The winner of my section - 2D works, was Barry Fitzpatrick for 'Self Portrait as a Cuttlefish' (image above right)

Local artist, Dona Norwood, was successfull in having entries sellected in the 2D and Photography/Digital sections.  Her entries were -left image above-2D 'The Naked Truth:Global Economics VS:National Independence'  and right image above at top - Photography/Digital 'Yesterday's News'.

Winner left, of the 3D works - Ann O'Connor for 'Moving House'.
A couple more 3D entries from local artists....top left-John Marshall's entry 'Escape from Ennui' and Belinda Green's 'Not Just Skin & Bones'.
The 'Local' artist award went to Todd Whisson for his entry 'Fleeting Light Scott's Point Margate'

The awards are at the Strathpine Community Centre and the Pine Rivers Art Gallery, 199 Gympie Rd, Strathpine.  Open daily from 10am to 4pm till 30th June.

  1. Hi Amanda, sorry to hear that it didn't have quite the same atmosphere but the art does look fabulous. Is much selling in Brisbane because I don't seem to have any luck at all this year.Kay

  2. Hey Kay...yeh, the past couple of months have been pretty quiet for sales for me too. They (the economics people)keep on putting interest rates up, and they say the economy is getting better, but what I'm hearing....people just don't have the money...they just don't want to spend, which I can understand fully, I'm the same.

  3. Hi Amanda. Great photos. sorry it didn't have the usual zing for you.
I feel art sales would be really down with the world economy the way it has been and still is.
We are all suffering..no money to spare.

As long as we are creating and enjoying our art.

Thank you for visiting my blog and commenting. I appreciate it so much.
